Post Competition

17.05 – And that’s it for today! Congrats to all of our competitors who finished the challenge. They’re off to have their pictures taken.

17.00 – Cy Malika, 31, finished the challenge. He says his eyes were definitely watering during the challenge, and that it was a bit difficult to breathe. But he says this was not the spiciest sauce he’s ever eaten.

16.55 – Our winner is Michael McGinley, 32, of London. McGinley says before the competition, he watched a YouTube video of people eating hot sauce, which made him worried. “They were crying, and had snot running down their noses.”

16.41 Time is up. Everyone has finished. Now the remaining contestants must wait five minutes before they can drink the milk.

16.37 – Another contestant is finished!

16.35 – I think we have a winner! He must wait another five minutes before he can drink that milk.

16.29 – The men have red sauce on their faces. Chunks of meat are falling off the bone, and onto the table.


16.26 – We now have six contestants. All men. Each contestant gets two tins: one is for the wings, the other is for bones.

16.21 – Glenn says that people with heart conditions and asthma are not allowed to participate. Contestants may have shaky hands immediately following the competition. Shortness of breath is another common symptom.

16.16 – I try the hot sauce. My god. This is easily the spiciest sauce I’ve ever eaten.

16.12 – Glenn says the hot sauce is made by a company in south London called Babanaga.

16.10 – I’m here with Hamish Glenn, general manager at Rileys Sports Bar in Haymarket. He says the sauce is a few thousand times hotter than a jalapeno, and is made from a chili pepper that ranks 6.4 million on the Scoville scale.
